I worked some more on this portrait yesterday, and got very cross because it seemed that every brushstroke went wrong! I have somehow made him look about ten years older! I will put him away for a couple of days and come back to him with fresh eyes.
Thanks for visiting.

Hi Sharon,
Interesting portrait, I see what you mean by looking older, mmm I think possibly his eyes and his mouth need to be softened. It's a difficult one so subtle. Just checked out your web-site very impressive such a varied and interesting approach to different subjects using different mediums.Very talented.
Thanks, Diana, for your lovely comments, and I think you are right about the softening of Jonathan's features. The portrait needs a lot of work yet!
Beautiful portrait Sharon. It takes so much talent to get a good likeness and you do it again and again. I agree that it may be in his eyes and mouth. Check the space between the eyes and also the eyebrows. It could possibly be off just slightly. Cannot really tell as both images don't fit on my screen together. Looking older is a problem I have when I do portraits( the painting, not me) and it seems just a fraction of an inch here or there is usually the answer for me.
All in all a wonderful painting.
Thank you so much, Carol for taking the time to comment, I appreciate it very much. I do agree that everything needs checking and refining, not much point to a portrait unless you get it right, right!?
Hello Sharon,
Picked up your site through another blog and love the way you show the progress of your painting! You asked for comments, and apart from the previous ones, can I humbly venture one? My first reaction was that the skin tone was quite dark which possibly could have the effect of aging him. Otherwise it's quite amazing the likeness you've captured.
