HAS Submission Day

Today was submission day for the Annual Hertford Open Exhibition, always so enjoyable.
The judges, l to r, Paul Curtis, Ronald Maddox and Davida MacDonald, soon got down to business, awarding 'A', 'D' , or 'X' for each painting, although it actually worked out that Ron had the deciding vote because Paul and Davida were totally opposed every time! Or so it seemed,
 Best Painting Overall
Best Abstract....What?...no it isn't an abstract!
 Best Watercolour
Best friend, Stella Green achieved three 'A' s for her 'Tulips'

I did all right, getting five of my six paintings accepted although it was my favourite one which was chucked out!
Sorry about the very poor photos.

Linda W Roth +++++

While chatting on Skype to Linda yesterday, she took a couple of snaps of me and then today painted a portrait using one of the photos for reference. I have to say that I wasn't expecting this! No doubt it is me though, is there? I love the freedom and expression, Linda is no timid wallflower! Live and learn.....next time someone points a camera at me I shall keep a straight face!
My own efforts today have been rather timid, though, in comparison.............

Made a start on another SP! Happy so far, but I saturated it with fixative, which ran, 8( , and meant I had to leave it until completely dry.
So I did this..........

I continued work on the oil, but wasn't happy.....so out came the charcoal.........

Neither are 'loose' enough, there is no movement or life or soul! I need to work from the mirror rather than a photo, I think.

BP Portrait Award.................Not!

My submission has again been rejected for the BP Portrait Award. From 2,377 entries, 55 works have been selected. I think it would have been a miracle! Guilt now takes over at money wasted
.............about £150 altogether..................especially with the bailiffs knocking at the door!

Off The Page

Just a few of the exhibits.................

I went to the West Norfolk Artists Association exhibition, 'Off The Page'. It was very interesting and diverse...paintings, drawings, sculptures, ceramics, textiles...........a bit of everything.

It would have been more interesting for you if I had made a note of the  poems/ prose that had inspired the pieces. Sorry. If you live here, go see it.

I also did some more work on 'Ali'.

I also tidied up 'Evie'

WA - Acrylic

Last week Paul Seymour came along to demo acrylic paint, showing us various techniques and styles. I had video-ed Paul but cannot figure how to upload it! Sorry.
But they are on You Tube Here

And Brenda provided a scrumptious homemade cake!
A brilliant afternoon!
Then, this week we had a go ourselves, with the following results.

 Judith...a work in progress.

Life Drawing at Castle Acre

I went to Castle Acre today for a life drawing/painting session run by Helen Breach, a fellow member of West Norfolk Artist Association. With wonderful model, Evie, and new friends to chat to I had a brilliant day.
To see what else I did please go to my life drawing blog, here.

Low Tide 42" x 32" Oil

I have added a few more glazes to this today. I really wanted to sharpen up the boats, but when I eventually found a photograph, it was really small which explains the undefined painting.

I also prepared another larger canvas........and sat for an hour wondering what to paint! 20" x 16" is my comfort zone, anything larger and I don't want to waste it.....and so I can't begin!
