Brancaster Staithe
Brancaster Stripes 10" x 12" Oil
Brancaster Shed 10" x 12" Oil
My second outing, painting en plein air and again I had an absolutely glorious day. The weather was fabulous, obviously cold, but brilliant sunshine all day, lunch in a warm welcoming pub and the company of really lovely people. Well what more could anyone wish for!
We have a Facebook page, here, which is well worth a look.

En Plein Air
Added to this will be camera, hat, gloves, scarf, money to pay for delicious lunch. I will also dispense with the huge chair and take the small one, see below, purchased 20+ years ago and never used.
I am going out painting en plein air again on Wednesday, to Brancaster Staithe. I am so excited as I had such a good time and enjoyed such good company before. This time, a good painting would be icing!

WA - City Street
The brief was to continue from last week, so I did. I didn't like this but, with more work I have changed my mind. There is a sombre air about it that suggests it doesn't like what it has seen!
I offered to post others' work and had three takers............
Judith.....it will be delightful when finished, as usual!
Veronica.......I love the full frontal viewpoint, it grabs your attention.
June......AAAWWWWW! What else can you say when he looks at you like that!
Framing
I have framed three little doodles, two more to go, to exhibit in Framin' Art throughout December. So if you would like a closer look, and see the other two, get along to the shop in Downham Market from 2nd December.

En Plein Air
Having only once, 25 years ago, attempted en plein air painting, and hating it, I was a bit scared of making a complete idiot of myself. But the desire to meet artists such as Mo and Haidee-Jo, whose work I have long admired, made me shift my arse! And I had the BEST day. I can't tell you what a buzz it is to say something and everyone knows EXACTLY what you mean! The company of other artists is HOME to me. Magic. They were ALL such lovely people. Next time I shall not hesitate. My painting was rubbish, but, hey, first time guys!
Plein Air-ers full of lunch! Malcolm Cudmore, Rosemary Carruthers, Jennifer Sendall, Linda Matthews, Mo Teeuw, Helen Herbert, Haidee-Jo Summers, and Mari French.
My feeble effort....Brancaster Staithe 10" x 12" Oil
WA - City Street
Sole Bay Inn, Southwold 16" x 20"
I know.....not exactly a street.....and I don't have an image for reference of what I had in mind....except maybe this;
Just discovered his work.....fabulous paintings...love them.....inspiring.!
I started this portrait of Judith, who makes wonderful, often coloured pencil, images of many of the same items, ie. keys, pencils, beach huts, deckchairs, last week. She is inspirational too! Wish I could show you.
I had hoped to finish this but the lighting proved impossible. Maybe next week, because I really wanted to paint from life. I have taken photos, however, just in case the mood strikes to continue before next Wednesday.

LUNCH 24" X 24" Oil WIP
The brief for WA today was
Autumn, and seeing everyones' leaves and berries, etc I had a momentary wish to have a go. But I was eager to carry on with 'Lunch', which I did. I wish I was one of those artists who start in the top right hand corner and work down and across, finishing as they go, so that it would be evident how I had progressed!!

Lunch 24" x 24" Oil Initial Scribbles
I fetched my pictures back from Kings Lynn today. Draw a line under that then...done.
After tiddling a few paintings and frames aimlessly, despondently, I remembered the photos I had taken of the lovely model we had on Saturday at Hertford. I loved her childish outfit......pink!.......and her stripey socks! Woohoo...I'm away again, I love painting !!!!!

WA - Continue From Last Week
Depp 16" x 20" Oil
So I did and here is more Johnny Depp.
Other news is that all three works that I have submitted to The Eastern Open, have been 'unselected'.
Their word not mine, so is that any better than 'rejected'? Duh! I have also today collected unsold work from a gallery. Is this the pits? Is this the bottom? Yes, I am feeling sorry for myself!

Start of a New Portrait
As yet untitled, size unknown, portrait of a boy. I usually prefer happy subjects, but this boy tugged at my heart, huddled in the corner as he is.

Robin
I have spent the past two days in the garden, trying to get some good video of this robin. Is he besotted with himself? He won't leave it alone. Is he just trying to understand? He does keep trying to fly through the mirror. Has he fallen in love with what he thinks is another robin? I have no idea how intelligent robins are. Has this psychologically damaged him for life? He's not there this morning.........perhaps he figured it out.

Eastern Open Postcards
If you submit artworks to the Eastern Open Exhibition you have the option of also entering their postcard art exhibition.
I had such high expectations but have discovered that I really CAN NOT paint small. I wanted colour, excitement, variation, movement,........ huh! These are tiny, scrappy versions of bigger paintings. I am very cross with myself. No imagination.

WA - Pattern
First some doodles, looking for ideas, and ultimately, a design!
Then I cut a stencil of my chosen piece.
Then I painted with acrylics.
Well, who knew I would have such a wonderful afternoon doing such a thing! Just imagine what I could achieve if I took more care, thought and time!
