Andrew

Twenty years ago, today, my youngest son, Andrew, passed away. He was nine years old. They say that time heals the pain, but it doesn't. It just helps you deal with it better.

I have been painting a portrait of him today , in remembrance of a happy, brave, very cheeky, adorable child, but I have found it very difficult, and it is not finished. I will post when it is.

The second one here is one of the first drawings I did when I started painting again, which was because I didn't have a picture of all four of us together, and I decided I would paint one.

I have still to paint that particular picture....when I am good enough!

The first one I did after a visit to the Hockney exhibition, where his coloured pencil portraits obviously inspired me.

Sad day, today, but I have to thank Dianne Mize, whose painting of York Falls, lifted my spirits.

Dear Sharon,
There can be nothing more tragic than the loss of a child. Time will never heal that hole that is left in your very core. You are very brave to paint him but it is important to keep his memory alive. Love Dianne x

Dear Sharon

I felt so sad when I saw this post. I don't think any words I could think of would help your loss. Memories are so precious and I am sure your portrait will give you some comfort and will be a beautiful thing to be able to do.

Sharon I was so sorry to read of the loss of your son. It's wonderful you are doing a portrait in remembrance of him and I know it is probably not without tears but it is my hope that there are some smiles and sweet memories too as you are painting.

Sharon, There are no words to express my feelings of sorrow for you. The loss of a child or grandchild is my greatest fear and I have the upmost respect for those who have endured such a loss and gone on to rebuild their lives. What a wonderful, healing action, to paint his portrait on this sad anniversary. You are a very strong lady!

Dear Sharon,
I love your slide-show of paintings! You have a real talent for portraits and figures and the slide-show gives such an easy way of viewing them. Love Di x
