Off The Page

Just a few of the exhibits.................

I went to the West Norfolk Artists Association exhibition, 'Off The Page'. It was very interesting and diverse...paintings, drawings, sculptures, ceramics, textiles...........a bit of everything.

It would have been more interesting for you if I had made a note of the  poems/ prose that had inspired the pieces. Sorry. If you live here, go see it.

Last week Paul Seymour came along to demo acrylic paint, showing us various techniques and styles. I had video-ed Paul but cannot figure how to upload it! Sorry.
But they are on You Tube Here

And Brenda provided a scrumptious homemade cake!
A brilliant afternoon!
Then, this week we had a go ourselves, with the following results.

Life Drawing at Castle Acre

I went to Castle Acre today for a life drawing/painting session run by Helen Breach, a fellow member of West Norfolk Artist Association. With wonderful model, Evie, and new friends to chat to I had a brilliant day.
To see what else I did please go to my life drawing blog, here.

Low Tide 42" x 32" Oil

I have added a few more glazes to this today. I really wanted to sharpen up the boats, but when I eventually found a photograph, it was really small which explains the undefined painting.

I also prepared another larger canvas........and sat for an hour wondering what to paint! 20" x 16" is my comfort zone, anything larger and I don't want to waste it.....and so I can't begin!

Eat - Progress

Eat 16" x 20" x 3 Charcoal

From photos taken at Hertford Life Drawing......beginnings of drawings destined for Hertford Art Society Annual Exhibition. Not sure about them yet. I do have better, more interesting photos, I think.
Can anyone tell me why I am only able to resize two of the three images ? !

Boats 10" x 12" Watercolour

I thought I would practise with watercolour, because it makes sense to take watercolours to paint en plein air, rather than oils. Lighter, less fuss. My watercolours, however are 20+ years old and the tin is rusty! You cannot work well with crap tools!
This wishy washy excuse for a painting is all I did. I gave up, and got out the charcoal........................................................

Progress

Terrible photo, sorry, it was getting dark.

En Plein Air - Brancaster Staithe

I had such a good time again, with brilliant company, including  Mo Teeuw , Haidee-Jo Summers, Gail Tointon, Malcolm Cudmore, Mari FrenchPat Tinsley, Candide Turnerbridger, Helen Herbert,  at the weather behaving, until the heavens opened at about 3pm, a scrummy lunch in the pub. I could wish for painting better paintings, but that will come with practise and experience. I did finally get to meet Peter Barker.............watched him paint, had a lovely chat..............icing on the cake!

Commission

I have started work on a commission today. Two portraits,  10" x 12",  both the same, a gift for the daughters of this lady, from her brother.

Lunch 24" x 24" Oil

I have spent a couple of days wondering what to do about the background of this painting to make it a masterpiece (!) ;o  Asking advice on Facebook and playing with lots of options on Photoshop, but in the end I feel it grabs attention as it is. I might still fiddle with details, maybe darken the background, but it is done!

WA - Continue From Last Week......Winter Landscape

I finished last weeks effort, so started another. I had wanted to practise getting the wet sand in the forground..................failed again! Needed a dark undercoat BEFORE the scumbling! Live and learn.

I like this though!

BP Portrait?

Work in progress, and I like this image and am wondering if it could be a suitable candidate for the BP Portrait Award? Your thoughts would be appreciated!

Fiddling

I have been fiddling! Can't seem to get down to serious work, but then I have this problem every year. This painting, which is huge, for me, was really bugging me, mainly because the boat in the forground is not big enough. So I sanded it down and have gone part way to obliterating it. See better already!
