WA - Drawing People
I started off the afternoon with a demo, but....a bit different.....a paint-along-a-Sharon sort of thing.
I hadn't thought it through properly because there was a problem with everyone seeing the model and my drawing! We got there in the end. So my aim was to show how to portray a head with volume and structure.
Thank you to the members who sat for us...very brave.....it is not an easy thing to do.

Glazing
I have been trying to paint heads without using white and just glazing primaries. I'm not sure about the black under-paintings........too dark? Maybe use it very thinned or a terre verte or cerulean perhaps? I've learnt that maybe you should really add some paint to the oil, too! I'm not sure it will ever dry, so will have to tonk it. See 'Steph'. Although I do rather like her ethereal quality, aka pale.
Alan 20" x 16" Oil
Alan detail. Too much red on right side of face...............scrape that off or darken everywhere else?
Steph 10" x 12" Oil
Steph detail. I have zoomed in close so that you can actually see I have used colour!
Love how she still stares at you, even from a very wonky photo!

Odd Jobs
I framed this, today, to submit to the 'Off the Page' exhibition by the West Norfolk Artists Association.
I also did some more work on 'Ali'.
I also tidied up 'Evie'

My buyer mentioned that Sue had a charcoal, so, not having a record of it, (couldn't remember, more like!) I asked if he would email me a photo of it.

Looking Back
At this time every year I have trouble painting. Whether it's the weather, the dark, or just the lazyitis, I can never get going after the clocks change...right until they change back again!
Here are a few of my favourites from last year.

Palette knife
I've been pottering today, housework, sorting paintings for exhibition, blah, blah, blah but managed a couple of 10 minute palette knife studies to use up some mixed black paint. Such fun!

Siblings 20" x 16" Oil WIP
This is the commission I have been working on, which my client, David , has kindly given permission to post. It's coming together quite well, but then it's just copying a photo, and I'm having a good time. Now the tricky stuff starts...with getting the likeness precisely. It looks like them to me, but I'm not their mother, who is to be the recipient!

I'm In!
My studio! I'm in! It is brilliant! It still needs racks and shelves and a wash basin, water and electricity, maybe, but hey, I can paint in it! I feel so humble, so much work and effort, I feel unworthy, why would Roy do so much for me? I can never thank him enough, I am so thrilled!
It didn't take long to get the paint out! I have been tiddling these today and they are getting there, I think.

Portraits
Half Full 20" x 16" Oil
Adolescent 30" x 40" Oil
Paramedic 18" x 24" Acrylic
David Lee 18" x 24" Acrylic
I have delivered paintings for selection (hopefully) to West Norfolk Artists Associations' annual exhibition. One lady commented on the portrait..'Half Full'....and said I had obviously been doing it awhile. I came straight home to compare!
The only really early one I have is 'Adolescent', painted with a very limited palette....red, blue and white. The other two were painted in 2004-2005 ish. I remember thinking they were all fantastic....at the time! Not sure I have progressed very far.
