I have friends visiting on Monday, so I have been attempting to finish these paintings of them.

Also today, I discovered that I have been shortlisted at Jacksons Art Supplies in their pastel portrait competition! Please vote for my entry, if so inclined,  here,  and read all about it too. My entry is called 'Meme'. Thank you

More Tiddling

Oliver  10" x 12"  Oil
The likeness is evading me , might have to start again, no point flogging a dead horse, as they say!
Long, Tall, Thin + Sally  Cherry Wood

Long, Tall, Thin + Sally  Cherry Wood
Have been sanding and refining these figures. It all takes so much longer than I supposed. The photo with the 10" x 12" portrait is to give a sense of size. Would love to do something life-size, but how long would that take!!!!!

Learning

I have been doing an hour here, a couple there, and I can see the light way down at the end of the tunnel! Don't get me wrong, I am enjoying every second. Each portrait is practise and honing my particular technique. You can't call it work....can you!??

More Progress

Took these along to WA , where the topic today was still water. Most people were busy with water-lilies, but I much prefer faces!

For Mike

I met a lovely man, Mike Stacey, last week at the Park House Hotel, Sandringham, which caters for the physically disabled and their carers. I demonstrated portrait painting. and Mike was so happy with the painting I did of him that he has commissioned me to paint his family! Wow!
So here I have made a start, electing to do them together so there is a continuity.

Tiddling Again

After a friend and fellow blogger, Linda, pointed out a few let downs in the drawing of this, I tried to rectify, having seen just what she meant. I always find such interaction to be highly beneficial. Any ways, spending so much time on the underpainting goes against the grain with me, and I am now loathe to take this further by adding colour.
After prevaricating, or is it procrastinating, about a background for this lovely girl, I bit the bullet and whacked on some colour. I had spent the morning asking the opinion of my fellow Wash Art Group members. Very helpful it was! Thank you.

Lizzie 20" x 20" Charcoal

Meet Elizabeth Crow, I have just found her on FB, after no contact for about 45 years. She was a playmate at primary school and high school and now we have challenged each other to draw the other!

A Start

 Me Three  16 " x 16" Oil
Back in 2009 this painting was one of five winners of The One Shows' Summer Exhibition. I have made a start on a new version of this same idea, inspired by The Three Graces, Antonio Canova's statue.

Happy New Year 16" x 16" Oil A Start

I said 'Please can I take a photo?' Their 'Of course!' meant nothing as they continued their messaging. 'I shall paint this!'
WooHoo! I am painting again. It has been a long break.
Happy New Year Everyone.

WA - Worn and Weathered continued -not.

We had a bit of drama at the start of the afternoon when part of the ceiling fell down! Luckily no-one was hurt, we moved all the tables to the other end of the room and carried on regardless!

Jack and Archie 20" × 16"  Oil  wip

I didn't carry on with the same theme as last week
because Judith gave me a commission, to paint her friends' twin boy grandchildren. I have tackled this by blocking in local colour first, with refining to come. Good start
