Is this wood carving I see here? These are terrific, but woodcarving is what did in my thumb. Keep your sessions short. I didn't and my thumb turned arthritic. I didn't discover this till this self portrait and gripping the brush like a pencil. The portrait is going well. My first response was the shadows have to be deeper to create a sense of depth. Tint the photo out in black and white. It's helpful.
I see you're branching out! They look terrific and the painting just gets better and better. I have a new artroom (built at great expense) and your painting has pride of place.
